In 2022, we founded Perspectives to help journalists connect with people from outside news, sparking practical inspiration and finding new ways to tackle shared challenges.

We ran our first Perspectives event at the East West Players Theater in Los Angeles on the sidelines of ONA22. In the four years since, we’ve run 10 events on topics as varied as skepticism and fragmented communication, AI and creativity, co-designing with community members, and defining narratives that build inter-community solidarity.

Today, we’re honored to announce our largest-ever grant, from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. It will allow us to experiment with new ways to expand our reach and grow our impact, including the launch of a franchise model that supports others who want to host Perspectives events in their community. Our first franchise event is Oct. 14 in Chicago.

We’re immensely grateful to the foundation for supporting the next phase of this work, as well as to the sponsors who have made each of our events possible over the last four years.

Thanks to this and funding from other sponsors, we already ran the closing keynote at the INN Sustainability Summit, and have two more events planned this year (details below).
